journal : shopping vs saving

In November I go to Japan for 2 weeks, and it’s just long/short enough away that I can’t seem to reconcile my shopping leading up to it. I buy so much of my clothing secondhand from Japan already, and this trip means getting to visit the physical locations of some of these online stores and brand flagships for the first time. I’m really looking forward to having a more meaningful experience shopping for CdG/Issey/Junya/Yohji in person, in actual Japan. So should I stop buying things in the months leading up to November? Will that make the pieces I select once I’m there more significant? Will I appreciate them more if I impose a bit of a draught leading up to it? It won’t all be secondhand – I’m planning on picking 1 item to buy new from each flagship in Tokyo as well.

On the other hand, I have a very clear vision of the kind of outfits I want to bring and where I want my wardrobe to be before the trip … and I don’t know if I’m there yet. Nothing would ruin the vibe faster than feeling underdressed/ugly/unstylish for the majority of the trip. I don’t want to rely on finding new pieces once I’m there.

Stop shopping now and save money to be more unconstrained for future purchases

Keep shopping for pieces to wear on the trip itself and be more selective once I’m there

File under stupid concerns that would only bother a very materialistic person !
